EPOXY ATTACHER
Model 157

The model 157 Epoxy Attacher is a machine to be used to epoxy glue dice to a substrate or package. It incorporates the features of a "Pick and Place" device with the additional ability to apply adhesive to the required spot and then place the die on the ahesive with out manipulating the sliding pedistal.

The machine consists of the following major components:

  1. A base plate with a smooth sliding surface
  2. A sliding pediestal with dice and package or substrate trays
  3. A tip holding lever
  4. Holding lever wich alternately presents a vacuum tip or a epoxy dispenser tip to the same working spot
  5. Lowering and raising handle for tips
  6. Lifting tip vacuum provisions sequentially or independently controlled
  7. Vacuum connection for substrate or package holding

OPERATION AND FEATURES:

PESESTAL WITH TRAYS:

A sliding pedestal movable by hand has two trays mounted on it. The trays are individually adjustable for height and the distance between them can also be adjusted. The pedestal is moved by hand to pick dice from one tray and then plaace on the substrate on the other tray.

PICK UP TIP LEVER AND DISPENSER HOLDING LEVER MECHANISM:

The tip and dispenser levers are tied to a mechanism that on repeated foot switch depression, will alternately present the pick up tip or the dispenser tip to the same working spot visible under the microscope. The pick up tip travels on the left hand arm of a "V" shaped path and the dispenser tip on the right hand arm, the point of the "V" being the working spot. The whole levers' mechanism is suspended in a way to prevent too much tip force on the dice or substrate while being lowered.

LOWERING HANDLE FOR TIPS:

The lowering handle for the tips is linked supportively to the pick-up tip and dispenser mechanism. It disengages from the mechanism and when the lowering motion is continued, it actuates a limit switch which will on first actuation, connect the vacuum to the tip and on the second actuation, remove vacuum from it. A pushbutton switch is also mounted on the lowering handle and will alternately acutuate and remove the vacuum to the pick up tip reguardless of the handle position. The above vauum controls are valid only when the pick-up tip is in the working spot position.
